“Water Contamination by your Bottle Dispenser”

Most people do not know that their water dispensers such as Ozarka systems need to be cleaned. The bottled water is clean but what about the dispenser in which the water must travel through before it reaches your glass.

Many bottled dispenser company clearly states in their manuals that the dispensing units should be cleaned every three to six months. The cleaning procedures for Ozarka units are as follows:

  • Place boiling hot water in the bottle placement area.
  • Use a brush to scrub the inside walls where the bottle usually lay.
  • Empty the water using the cold water drain.
  • Refill bottle placement area with water.
  • Empty the water using the cold water drain.

Most people do not realize that this cleaning is necessary because these units can become dirty and slimy. When bottles are being stored they accumulating dirt and dust on top neck which are later being placed directly into the water dispensers. In addition, most people grab the neck of the bottle when placing them into the dispensers. Well, with this they transfer over the germs from their hands onto the bottle neck which is then placed directly into the dispenser. Bacteria and slime form onto the sides of this dispensing area and multiple until someone cleans this area. This is preciously why it is clearly stated that these dispensers need to be cleaned every three to six months.

So the next time you are changing your bottle or come across a water dispenser run your finger on the inside rim of the bottle placement hole and see for yourself.
